Accounting Supervisor
Our client is an FMCG Distribution Company in Nicosia and they are looking to hire an Accounting Supervisor to track, monitor and evaluate the day-to-day accounting tasks and activities essential to ensure the company's performance and success, and establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles.
We are looking for someone with solid experience in the responsibilities and KPIs outlined in the job description, particularly month-end closing and financial reporting. The person needs to be commercially minded, hands-on, and able to work independently. Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, cash-flow management, audit coordination, tax, and statutory requirements is important. The candidate should also have strong communication skills and be comfortable collaborating with both local management and the regional finance team. The Accounting Supervisor will work alongside another accountant but will operate at a slightly higher level, taking greater ownership of the month-end closing process and related accounting responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Accounting Framework:
- Formulate an Accounting strategy, develop an action plan in coordination with Senior Management, and define needed financial and human resources to achieve set objectives.
- Manage the development of Accounting policies and procedures, as well as the design and implementation of related processes and performance measurement models.
- Accounting Transactions:
- Approve payment vouchers and control the reconciliation of transitory account and cash settlements upon repayment
- Allocate the cost related to the various expenses (rent, freight, insurance, telephone, fuel, etc.) as per company policy, and process payment of related charges on the system.
- Supervise the maintenance of accounts’ system and keep records on all company’s daily transactions and assets.
- Reconciliation & Control:
- Handle bank and suppliers’ reconciliations; monitor and resolve issues and discrepancies including fees anomalies
- Review on a monthly basis, all critical transitory accounts for reconciliation and adjustments
- Control and review all provisions accounts along with their related write back accounting sketch
- Compliance & Reporting:
- Handle fiscal declaration, and ensure prompt and accurate payment of taxes.
- Ensure that statements and records comply with laws and regulations, and handle local government reporting.
- Issue on a regular basis reports on accounting and financial information to allow informed decision making.
- Team Supervision:
- Perform various responsibilities related to team supervision including planning and assigning tasks, setting deadlines, monitoring results and giving feedback on work, providing on-the-job training, relaying attendance and behavioral issues, etc.
- General:
- Carry out other similar duties that can be defined within the broad functional job and functional responsibilities outlined above.
- These may include special missions assigned by direct supervisor, support to other units, providing on the job training, etc.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Accounting, Audit or Business-related field
- 5 years’ experience in similar position
- Excellent commands of Greek and English
- Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory position is preferred

- Preparing reports / deliverables of a high standard subject to Manager’s review and being able to support content of the report in terms of factual accuracy and completeness as per the defined scope of work
- Provision of support to clients in relation to various regulatory matters, such as licensing, AML compliance reviews, corporate governance or other ad hoc requirements
- Performance of compliance reviews in accordance with regulatory requirements focusing on the identification of weaknesses and areas for improvement
- Preparation of training material, participation in meetings with clients and other ad hoc requirements
- Review and analysis of new regulations, guidelines and standards
The Requirements:
- University degree with a grade of 2:1 or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. Finance, Business, Economics, Risk Management, Law) and/or a holder of a professional qualification (ACA/ACCA)
- Certified Internal Audit (CIA) qualification will be considered an advantage
- Prior experience of at least two years in the internal audit field or in similar role position
- Previous experience in the financial sector (banking, investment firms) will be considered as an advantage
- IT literacy with sound knowledge and experience of Excel/Word/ PowerPoint (Microsoft Office)
- Fluent in Greek and English in writing and oral skills
- CySEC Basic/Advanced or AML Certificates will be considered as an advantage
